Hua Quan, the transformation of authority

Traditional attribution or legend

Hua Quan (化權) is the transformation of authority. The classic text calls it the spirit that holds the power of judgment. We read it as the place where you take charge, push for results and want a say.

Hua Quan (化權) is the second of the four transformations, usually translated as transformation of power or authority. Like the other three, it attaches to one star in your chart depending on your birth-year stem, and it turns up that star's volume: more decisive, more assertive, more invested in outcomes.

The classic text describes it as the spirit that holds the power of judgment (掌判), and says that paired with the other transformations it points to high rank and renown. It also links difficult combinations with slander and loss of official standing: with harsh stars and emptiness around it, a person may listen to slander, bring trouble on themselves and face official disaster or demotion (聽讒貽累,官災貶謫). We use that historical image only as a prompt to reflect on responsibility and criticism, not as a prediction.

In plain terms, Hua Quan marks the area where you want control, competence and a seat at the table. In a good light, that is leadership and drive. In a hard light, it is micromanaging or refusing to delegate. The star that carries it tells you what flavor of control you reach for.

A reflective question: where do you step up naturally, and where do you hold on tighter than you need to? Sometimes the most authoritative thing you can do is hand something over.
