Po Jun, the Star of Change
Po Jun, the Army Breaker, is the last of the Northern Dipper. The classic text calls it a star of wear or spending, and is harsh about its temperament. We read it as the reformer who clears the old to make room for the new.
Po Jun (破軍), the Army Breaker, is the seventh star of the Northern Dipper and a water star. The classic text calls it a star of destructive energy in the heavens and of wear or spending (耗) in the numbers. The rest of the entry is harsh about its temperament, and we do not adopt those judgments. The entry places Po Jun in its strongest dignity (入廟, literally entering the temple) at the Zi and Wu positions.
Where Tian Fu stores, Po Jun spends, and the pair are often read as opposites. If Tian Fu keeps the household together, Po Jun is the one who knocks down the wall to open a window. Its energy is the energy of change, whether the change is chosen or arrives anyway.
Our reading likes this star for what it can build after it tears down. Po Jun is the creative disruptor: restless, bold, uncomfortable with routine, ready to reinvent. The challenge is tying change to a purpose, because tearing something down is only exciting if you know what comes next.
A question for this star: what in your life is ready to be rebuilt, and what is worth keeping while you do?
